The Pros and Cons of Having Your Dog at Your Wedding


So last weekend I got married in a ceremony on the beach, followed by a reception poolside at a private residence called Tranquility Cove here in Grand Cayman. I really wanted to have my dog Roxy at the ceremony, and Dillon (my now husband) didn't. We went through the pros and cons of having our little fur baby present at the wedding. Here's our lists: 


Pros:

  • How cute would the wedding pictures be with Roxy in them? 
  • Dog as a ringer bearer? Yes Please!!!!
  • Roxy is a member of our family, so it only makes sense that she share in the celebration.
  • She loves people and would greet each guest with utter enthusiasm. Who wouldn't love a wagging tail, and a sloppy dog kiss greeting?





Cons:
  • All the excitement would probably be a little overwhelming for her. With over 70 guests, it would be almost an overload on an already over-excitable dog. 
  • Who would be in charge of handling her? We're certainly too busy on the day to watch her.
  • We have to remember that not all people love dogs like we do. Also, some may actually be deathly afraid of large dogs, or allergic. 
  • What if she got stepped on accidentally, or ran off on the beach somewhere and we had to spend part of our wedding night searching for our lost dog. No bueno. :(
As you can see, the cons far outweigh the pros. So we choose to keep her with our dog sitter at Love Your Dog for the weekend. It ended up being a good decision. Here's a link to some our photos from the wedding (sorry Roxy, don't be jealous).

The Best and Worst Moments of 2016 (according to my dog)

Now that 2017 is underway, I've had some time to reflect and think about all the good and not so good times over the past year. 2016 was an exciting year with many new changes, and it got me thinking: Do dogs reflect over their past experiences? Do dogs reminisce when they're older of "the good old days?"
